The Hyderabad Old City metro project has made the people happy

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will now lay the foundation stone for the old city metro project on March 8, following several years of delays. HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy made the statement, announcing the start of Phase I metro rail work on a 5.5 kilometer length from MGBS to Falaknuma. This Rs 2000 crore project is expected to have an impact on 1100 houses in total.

The green line's old city stretch will eventually end at the Falaknuma metro rail station as originally intended, passing through Darulshifa, Puranihaveli, Etebarchowk, Alijakotla, Mir Momin Daira, Haribowli, Shalibanda, Shamsheergunj, and Aliabad, according to officials.

With upscale shops, gated communities, high-rise structures, and a 69-kilometer Metro Rail link that serves a significant number of IT and BPO workers, Hyderabad is growing in all directions. However, the Old City remains cut off, at least insofar as the Metro Rail project is concerned. The Old City Metro has stagnated whereas the Hyderabad Airport Metro Line (HAML) has advanced quickly. Although the Telangana government has received praise from authorities for its efforts on the Airport Metro, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Authority (HMRL) has placed the blame on L&T, and the government, although prepared to execute the plan, has not responded to the call.

The first metro line in Hyderabad opened for service in 2017 and spans three corridors: Miyapur to LB Nagar, JBS to MGBS, and Nagole to Raidurgam. It has been in operation for four years. The 31-kilometer Airport Express Corridor, which runs from Raidurg to Narsingi Junction—the location of several IT companies—is now being worked on more quickly. However, HMRL authorities crushed the aspirations of the locals by stating that the state government will decide what happens to the five-kilometer Metro Rail project, which would have gone via the Salar Jung Museum, Charminar, Shamsheergunj, the Old City's core, and on to Falaknuma from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Stand (MGBS).

Starting at Mindspace Junction in Raidurg, the Airport Express Metro Corridor will travel via Biodiversity Junction, Khajaguda Road, and Nanakramguda Junction on the Outer Ring Road (ORR). In addition to putting reflective boards in the road medians to provide a visual connection between the starting point and the destination, a HAML official informed Deccan Chronicle that the "peg marking of the alignment" had started. These signs will aid in determining the station's chainage.

The bid documents for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) mode of tendering are being prepared by the HAML authorities. The nodal agency has been putting together bid paperwork, according to officials, and a tender will be released shortly. Regarding the Old City Metro project, work has not started even though the authorities started marking the structures for road widening four years ago. They warned that if the entire five kilometers of the road were not widened at once, there would be multiple bottlenecks along the route, forcing merchants and wholesalers to close until the road was widened. Until the road widening projects are finished, commuters will experience severe traffic jams because there is no other way to the central city.
