Washington: Paul Alexander, who spent over 70 years in America living with the assistance of an iron lung, has gone away. Alexander, also known as Polio Paul, passed away at the age of 78. This was because Paul Alexander, at the age of six, contracted polio in 1952.
He started showing signs of polio and was sent to a hospital in Texas. He was housed inside an iron box (iron lung) because of damage to his lungs. He continued to live this way for the next seventy years of his life. Paul Alexander gained worldwide recognition as "The Man in the Iron Lung" as a result.
